Nutritional content of Shallots

We often find onions in a variety of dishes, but do you know the benefits and nutritional value of onions? Onions have rich characteristics thiosulfinat, sulfide, sulfur oxides and other smelling sulfur mixture. Custeine Sulfur oxides that contribute to the taste of onion and produce substances that make the pain in the eyes. Thiosulfinates produces anti-bacterial agent. Shallots are effective against many bacteria including: Bacillus subtilis, Salmonella, and E. coli.


Benefits of Onions
 1. Cancer PreventionAllium vegetables have been extensively studied in relation to cancer, especially gastric and colorectal cancers. The beneficial effects of onion, are likely due in part to their rich organosulfur compounds. Although the exact mechanism in which these compounds inhibit the cancer is not yet known. However, several hypotheses allows inhibition of tumor growth and mutagenesis.Onions are also a source of vitamin C as an antioxidant and helps to combat the formation of free radicals that are known to cause cancer.
2. Prostate CancerIn a study published by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, the researchers used a case-control study based on the population to investigate the relationship between the intake of allium vegetables and prostate cancer. They found that men with the highest intake of allium vegetables, had the lowest risk for prostate cancer.
3. The esophagus and stomach cancerThe intake of allium vegetables were inversely related to the risk of developing stomach cancer. Several survey-based studies in humans have demonstrated the potential protective effect alliums consumption, as well as reports of inhibition of tumor following administration of allium compounds in animal experiments.


4. Set the Sleep and Mood
Folate is found in onions, can help depression by preventing excess homocysteine from forming in the body, which can prevent blood and other nutrients to reach the brain. Homocysteine affects the production of the hormone serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which regulates not only the mood, but also sleep and appetite well.

5. Good For Heart
Methylallyl and sulphide content of sulfur amino acids in onions, giving the effect of a decrease in the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood and increase the good cholesterol levels. The benefits of garlic also control high blood pressure and clogged arteries open, so as to improve heart health.
